Local teen, Hannah McCalmant, is rocking the fishing world and making a name for herself!
Idaho Teen Named State Champion & Qualifies for Prestigious National Championship
Despite Covid still trying to knock out most youth sports, Idaho has a new state champion! Hannah McCalmant of Post Falls nabbed the biggest 5 bass limit at the state level, which propels her to the World Finals for the Bass Cat Boats, Big Bass Zone (BBZ) Junior Championship presented by Bassmaster. Hannah is one of 54 anglers (1 of 4 young ladies), between the ages of 13 & 19, that will travel from their home states to Missouri in late October for one of the world’s most prestigious bass tournaments for teens. Prizes total more than $300,000 and include 4 Bethel University 30,000.00 college scholarships, a $35,000 Bass Cat boat, bass fishing trips to Mexico from Billy Chapman Jr and Anglers Inn International, and more. It’s an extraordinary opportunity for any teen to fish like a pro.
Young anglers across the country competed for seven months hoping to catch the biggest 5 bass limit in each state. Those who did will compete in the BBZ JC World Finals at Lake Taneycomo in Branson Missouri, on Saturday, October 30th, 2021. Hannah is thrilled to be among them and to represent Idaho. Now she’s looking ahead to Missouri.
Hannah is proud to represent her title sponsor, Les Schwab Tires. While she has received some help toward travel and other expenses from a few friends and family, there is always room for more. If you or your business would like to donate and/or appear on her jersey, Hannah can be reached by messaging her Facebook Page or by calling/texting her father (Tony) (208) 661-4593.

Bill Siemantel, a Fishing Hall of Fame angler, author, award-winning lure designer, and industry consultant, created the BBZ JC Tournament, now in its third year, to unbind the constrictive, traditional one-day format so any young angler can compete. It’s grassroots fishing at its finest. Teens in the 49 contiguous states fish their home waters from boats or banks so anyone can compete.
