Jacob Traba Targets Hawaiian Peacock Bass With The SPRO BBZ-1 6" Swimbait

Jacob Traba

Hey Bill,
I had to tell you a little about the peacock bass I tagged you in on Facebook the other day. I grew fishing Castaic throwing big baits for bass and stripers and fished tournaments up there for a couple years against you and all those other good sticks around there. But man this peacock bass thing here in Hawaii is a blast! We get them on bbz, glide baits, a rigs, swim jigs, frogs and spooks. Such a fun fish.

SPRO BBZ-1 6"

Right now the fish are pairing up starting to spawn so they get really territorial and the bbz slow sink is the perfect bait for it. I wish they sank slower maybe I'll have to add some weight to the floater? But the fish suspend off the bank sometimes you see them sometimes not, but I throw the bbz up to the bank and twitch let it sink slow and repeat kind of like a jerk bait. But they come up to it slow all flared up and colorful(cause there pissed) then just smash it! So much fun biggest one that day was around 8 lbs they don't get much bigger then that here I think the record is 9 or 10lbs. I've hooked a couple that size but lakes loaded with trees so getting them in is the challenge. They pull harder then stripers for sure! But definitely recommend coming out to fish for them it's a blast lake has largies and smallies as well.

Alec James

I have a friend Alec James he's on that Facebook post he guides up here so maybe you can do a plug for his guide trip business his number is (808)225-5572. He grew up fishing Casitas so we got along right away. Haha. We're both in the military so that's how we got lucky enough to live out here. But transferring here in a couple months to San Francisco so I'll be on Clear Lake and all the time here soon! Thanks for reaching out to me,

I tagged you because figured you like to see what gets caught on your baits! Let me know if you have any questions or wanna come out and fish would be cool to see how you approach the lake.
Thanks -Jacob Traba-
