"Cats Eat Rats" BBZ-1 Rat 30 Catches Catfish, Say What? Michael Cronje Is In The House!

Not exactly the target species Bill Siemantel would've envisaged while developing the SPRO BBZ-1 Rat 30... but I guess rats do attract cats... or a 3.82kg catfish in this case.

During a recent bassing trip to a popular waterway in the Limpopo province of South Africa, I was fishing the SPRO BBZ-1 Rat 30 in Morning Dawn color with the hope of hooking into one of the numerous largemouth bass living in the dam. Twenty or so casts with the Rat, and BAM! At first, I thought I'd hooked into a lunker bass... the fish went deep, and snagged up in a submerged tree. We pulled up over the the tree and spotted nothing other than an African sharptooth catfish (Clarias gariepinus) wrapped up in the branches. I gave the fish some slack hoping the fish would swim free, and it did. The trebles stayed firmly lodged in the fish's jaw and moments later we boated a healthy 8lb 6oz specimen. Not the first catfish I've caught while bassing, but my first on the rat.
