In Mexican waters off the Alijos Rocks, the Excel was making troll stops for Wahoo. On a troll during a jig strike, Skipper Justin Fleck took the boat out of gear. Trainer waited patiently for the boat to slow down and the signal, “Okay guys let them go.”
“The Wahoo were speeding all over the place boiling on our chum, jumping out of the water. If you had never fished Wahoo before it was a sight to behold, “ explained Trainer.
These were exactly the conditions Trainer was waiting for and the very reason he was rigged with the Rat 50. At the port corner, he fired out the BBZ Rat. The large powerful Excel was still sliding causing the Rat’s large bill to dig in. Trainer made a few cranks of the reel when his lure became heavy and hard to wind, he was on!
After a relatively short battle, the Wahoo was boated. “I was more than elated, shocked, I just laughed and shook my head. I just caught a Wahoo on a rat,” said an excited Tom Trainer!
Thinking outside of the box isn’t a problem for Trainer, congratulations.

If you remember, it wasn’t long ago that Trainer, in front of the skeptics, put a Yellowfin Tuna on the deck of the Excel with the BBZ Rat 50. Trainer is a pathfinder, awesome job!
