The 2015 Won Bass U.S. Open Tournament is scheduled for 9/14 – 9/16. If the reality program Survivor ever did a bass fishing show, I think it would look a lot like a Lake Mead U.S. Open event. Previously held during the month of July this venue is located at the convergence of three major deserts, the Mojave, the Great Basin, and the Sonoran.
Too hot is an understatement! Heading to the lake the temperatures can reach the 90’s before the sun rises. During the day, it’s not uncommon for the thermometer to hit a scorching 120 degrees! Yes, we all want to win, but just surviving the U.S. Open is also a prominent goal.
This derby doesn’t only attract survivalists it attracts histories highest caliber bass anglers. The venue is just outside of Las Vegas between the Grand Canyon. Bass fishermen not only travel from all over the United States to compete, this significant competition also draws anglers from across the globe.
I have had the pleasure and the wear for all to compete at Mead on several occasions including two U.S. Open events. I’m not going to be at this year’s event, but I have snapped many Lake Mead pics, so allow me to give you some visual windows and in a sense take you there.
The desert has such a unique beauty. And a place the size of Lake Mead, of course, has tremendous beauty. My photographic tour has shown a minuscule amount of what is in store for you, should you have the opportunity to visit. If not, or until then, I hope you have enjoyed this 'trip'. Good luck to all of this year competitors!
