Clear Lake FLW Stren Series 09 Road Trip (original post date 3/11/09 tournament 3/5/09-3/7/09)
This rig is ready to roll. I am on a road trip that will take me 500 miles north of my home Venice Beach.
Along the way you will pass by one of the most important streets in California.
The destination Clear Lake CA. Clear Lake is home to record setting bass tournament weights.
Let's see what the lake has to offer.
Clear Lake has points
She has creek channels...
Humps and they are easy to find, just look for the signs
This is the sonar image as I went over the rock pile that is under the marker in the previous photo. When you look at the GPS trail you can see how many times I visited this spot.
Ridges, she has ridges. I have a underwater camera and I was going to photo the submerged structure but the water temperature kept me from going all out for you guys.
Clear Lake attracts some of the finest bass anglers. Here are two now, no that is not Mort from Bazooka Joe on the bow. From right to left, Al and Troy Lindner. Hey guys save some bass for me!
Two more awesome anglers
Plenty of wildlife at Clear Lake
Elk taking a break
Not the bucket mouth we are after
Do you want to flip? Well flip out or maybe just go wacky
Docks are everywhere, pitch away
Even at the end of winter you can find green floating vegetation
Volcanoes, Clear Lake has volcanoes, Mt. Konocti
Poisonous gas, Clear Lake has that too, Soda Bay. Check out the skull and crossbones. The German portion of the sign translates to BBZer's verboten.
Another excellent angler, remind you of anyone?
I love it when there is more casting than spinning rods on deck
Nice real estate
The beauty is everywhere
Even the fungus looks nice here
Is that a big guy or a small boat? If you see the pedestal seat on my front deck you know the conditions have been rough.
Clear Lake is located in Lake County California in the heart of northern California's wine country. Some of the finest wines on the planet are produced here. Here is a tip guys; if you are on the road fishing and loved ones are left behind back home bring them back some goodies. Perhaps some fine Lake County nectar. If you do when you get home they may just ask when your next trip is.
Derby day, time to go to work
Searching for a pot of gold
Big fish; they are here, Troy has some very nice ones. 'The Rapala pro out of Los Angeles CA, he's got a five bass limit, let me see you two best fish, hold them up, good job, keep casting' - Chris Jones / Tournament Director FLW
It's down to the final two pros. Hey down in front!
The final day and Roy Hawk catches the heaviest 5 bass limit of the tournament; over 33 pounds anchored by this 12 plus pound big fish, coming from 8th place to capture the title, WOW! Photo by Patrick Baker.
A champion is crowned.
I want to fly like an eagle... or a Hawk
I love Clear Lake see you on the next trip.
